Damiano, a weak-willed land registry clerk stifled by his hypochondriac mother , lives a colorless existence in a small Friulian town. His life is upended when he meets Tommaso, a successful doctor who is his perfect physical double but his psychological opposite.
Obsessed with the other man’s life, Damiano begins a clandestine affair with Tommaso’s wife, Joana , eventually dyeing his hair and wearing Tommaso’s clothes to replace him. However, he soon discovers he is merely a reflection used by Joana to reclaim her past.
Having lost all sense of identity, Damiano abandons his plan to kill his rival and chooses a desperate escape, running into the void to break free from the chains of a life that was never his.
